Blog post[Summarizing experiment and challenges faced this week]
It’s a long week, at least for me, I feel that way.
Recruitment:
Dividing into different roles makes us clearer about what we should do for this team. Recruiting people is really crucial at this point. I tried many different ways to advertise ourselves and attract as many people as possible. I know that if I can recruit more people for my team, all of them will feel less worried and fear. At least, we can make ourselves more confident about our idea and product. Nat won’t feel that worried as well.
So I started to do posters and designing logo on the weekends and posted them at school. But somehow our poster kept missing, We even suspected that there may be enemies who want to scheme on us. But eventually…we found out that the problem might be our tape… it’s not sticky enough so our posters fell down.
Also, because we were thinking 3 posters could be more attractive, we tried to print a lot. In fact, posters in CCA are always competing with each other. On the one hand, it’s really hard to have enough space. On the other hand, we got some feedback about some people don’t know how to scan the QR code as they don’t know what app to use. So we changed to another version.
At the same time, I tried to generate an QR code for us on the weekends, this makes people easier to get our info. By scanning the QR code, people can see our landing page, sign up survey, Facebook group and Instagram.
I tried sending our posters to different Facebook groups and Reddit. However, when I sneaked in the Facebook group from other universities and college, they asked me to provide student ID. Well…I sneaked out. If post info in the Facebook group is not efficient enough. Maybe Wechat(Chinese Facebook), creating our Facebook page and Instagram works? After we send our posters in WeChat, we quickly got 40+ scan. Some people from tech company even ask us that “Do you really just focus on students? We also want to join.”
It’s really happy to see that we got more and more scans during this 5 days. And I’m glad that I can help our team to record our stories on Instagram. No matter whether our final pitch success or false, at least for now, I care more about the atmosphere of our team.
Table recruitment was really successful. But I have an interview at that time, I just helped for 30 minutes in the beginning. But it was so exciting that seeing strangers came to us and curious about what we are doing.
In order to get more people, I was also thinking about the business card that we can give it to people or just put them on the table in the different classroom.
I’m glad that what I did for this team really works. Up to now, we got 94 scans, hand out 40+ flyers in 5 days, now we have 50 sign-ups in total. My teammates said what I did for this team is really helpful. I do feel less anxious and worried after we pivot. And the payback of my efforts makes me feel much better and confident.
We are trying to arrange another table recruitment next Wednesday. In order to improve the whole experience and attract more people, I designed stickers and some props for my team for my team.
Contact participants:
When we feel successful in our recruitment. Another problem came out. Why do we want to recruit so many people? We want to take experiments and test our assumptions. This sounds super mean, but it’s right. Some participants came to us and ask “I know this is just a school project you guys are working on, but we really like your idea and we really wish that we can have a learning partner.” Even some of them were saying that if we don’t want to continue working on this after Creative Founder, he wishes he can take it.
During the interview, one of the participants told us, “I know this is just an experiment, but we are real people. If you get so many sign-ups, but you are not going to continue this, a lot of people might feel disappointed you know.” We haven’t thought about that far, from the current situation, we just thought about we need participants because our team is a little bit behind.
After I told my teammates about what I heard, they said they are willing to continue this after Creative Founder if our participants still need us. And so do I.
My personal goal of my design career is bringing positive and meaningful impacts to others. When I see our participants really love our service and giving a lot of feedback, making me believe what I am fighting for really works.
