Calculating costs for Benefitly and the founding team.

Week 10 of Creative Founder: Cost

Humans are expensive.

--

This is the part of your startup journey where you realize all those people who told you “you better have heart” are coming to mind.

“I’ve seen more entrepreneurs run out of heart than money.” — Christina Wodtke

Cost isn’t just financial.

With the sweat equity we’re putting into Benefitly, cost means time, every day of our life, its quality — ”eating ramen” for extended periods of time, trying to extend the runway. Which do you have more of: heart or money? For me, the former has never been a problem.

Luckily for us, as a digital company, our financial costs are relatively low. (Now, if we would just have an easier time with revenue…)

It’s hard to look at just how much you really spend, but when you do, it’s a great reality check.

With truth, you recover control.
