When Did My Cat Become My Boss?

The insidious signs were there all along

It started so innocently, like many things in life do. He was the cutest little black and white kitten. Someone found him on a campsite crying pitifully. He was abandoned and starving. They had to bribe him into a box with a piece of chicken to rescue him. Soon my friend was texting me about him.

“He’s so cute. He looks like your cat Boo.” (Boo was my beloved cat who passed the year before.)

How did I know this would change my life forever? I felt sorry for the little guy. Soon I brought him home to his new room, with food and treats, wand toys, spinning toys, and catnip mice. He had a comfortable bed to sleep on, and lots of love.

I'd entertain him every day before and after work, swinging those wand toys. He’d leap in the air to retrieve them, like an acrobat.

He was so adorable. And he knew it. And that’s when my sneaky boy set out to change the power dynamic in our house and slowly turn me into his employee.

He forces me to play with him
