Not so long ago, I was living in a rut. I was working at a job where I was undervalued. Even though I had a college degree, I couldn’t seem to advance at work.

I watched as people around me were promoted, and I stayed still.

In my off time, I pursued my creative pursuits, but I was so exhausted after work. It was a enormous struggle just to get anything done that I wanted to get done.

Because when you are working a job that’s repetitive and dull, it’s exhausting.

I’d vent to others

Often I would tell people that my dream was to be a full-time writer someday. I wasn’t going to stay in a job working for someone else forever.

People would ask me to socialize after work, but I was too tired to do anything. Plus, I needed that time to write.

One woman grew frustrated because I wouldn’t socialize with her.

“ You always say you’re going to leave your job and move, but you never do, ” she mocked me, “ You’re all talk- no action. ”

Her words hurt me very much. But they made me realize who my true friends really were. They were the people that believed in me when…
