What is the Value of Saving Somebody’s Life?

How do price and value life changing services?

A little telephone call to my dad triggered me and this article.

Along with a chat to a fellow author on here.

This is what triggered me, a simple friendly chat and my dad asking how Lisa , my wife, is enjoying her new job as a podiatrist.

Fine I explained apart from the hour and half travel each way.

Dad then casually said “she is helping people now.”

I knew he was pleased for Lisa, but he had devalued my life’s work that Lisa had been doing with me for the last thirteen years. I suggested she had helped as a touring psychic medium performing in front of tens of thousands of people.

He said I suppose so if they’re that way inclined. I grew up poor and getting through life for most was enough. What I did wasn’t of interest to most, we never talked about it.

They would talk about us always being away but never discuss what we were doing. It began to feel like a guilty secret.

Visible to tens of thousands, invisible to lots of loved ones.

I went out with my cousin, best friends since childhood. The last time I saw him was at his mum’s funeral. We start to chat and out of nowhere he says,

” You know I don’t believe in that stuff you believe in”.

“I’m sorry I brought it up” I said sarcastically.

“Well I’m just saying”

“Look whatever makes you happy, I get comfort from my beliefs”

He went on to say how pointless they were, I let him talk, years ago I would have argued but not now.

So from that background how do you price and have confidence in getting?

So I’m going to turn my dad’s as a yardstick.

Podiatrists can detect problems with the heart and maybe save a life.

We have had feedback from people that they believe we saved their life.

Podiatrists can save limbs.

We help heal emotional wounds that help people get back on their feet.

Podiatrists can clean and dress wounds, until they are healed.

We helped heal lots of deep emotional wounds.

Podiatrists can reduce pain.

We have reduced emotional pain.

The point I’m making is both are needed, to be able to walk again but you are too depressed to go anywhere.

Neither service is needed by large parts of the population.

Surely the value is there and yet unseen, known only to the person.

Do you think there is a difference?

Thanks for reading. If you want to support me, buy me a coffee. Thanks again.
