Before the month of Ramadan started, I put a goal on myself to study a few ayahs (verses) of the Quran every day.

I was very excited for this because Ramadan is the month of the Quran and for the first time in my life I can read the Quran in Arabic, the original language it was revealed. Alhamdulillah.

But when Ramadan came, I was so sick with a kidney infection, that I couldn’t even do the main goal of Ramadan, fast. And then in the middle of the month I had to move to a new flat because they were selling my old one.

I barely managed to fast half of Ramadan this year, and my Quranic Study goal was untouched by the day of Eid.

With this turn of events, I had two options.

One: Feel like a failure and beat myself up for having a very unproductive Ramadan.

Two: Feel grateful that I did my best given my circumstances, and that I can always try again when things are better.

I would be a liar if I said I went with the second option.
