I have no power and no strength, except with Allah
The brilliance of “La hawla wala quwwata illa billah”
For years, self-help gurus have echoed the slogan, “You can do anything.”
They’ve urged us to believe in ourselves, to set ambitious goals, and to push our limits. While this message can be inspiring, it can also be misleading. It can lead us to believe that we are solely responsible for our success, that we have complete control over our destinies.
But the reality is that we are not all-powerful beings. We have limitations, both physical and emotional. There are circumstances beyond our control that can impact our lives.
I used to subscribe to this “can-do” mentality. I’d often repeat the affirmation, “I can do it!” to push myself through challenges. But as life’s hurdles increased, I began to feel overwhelmed and discouraged. It became clear that my own willpower wasn’t enough.
That’s when I discovered the profound Islamic phrase,
