Captured Feelings
We Are a Silent, Cowardly World
We are failing them, shame on us
The tears I’ve shed for Palestine have been many.
But none have hit me with the visceral force of a recent video. In it, a young girl, with a destroyed Gaza behind and a grief no child should ever know, broke my heart into a million pieces.
Her voice, carries the weight of a world’s silence as she asks,
“Why have you been silent until now? Why? You see the scenes of death and people burning alive.”
It wasn’t only the horror of what she described, the brutality of “people burning alive,” that landed with such force. We all are seeing what she is describing.
It was the accusation in her voice, the raw shock at the world’s indifference.
Here I sit, safe in London, a city far removed from the immediate conflict, and her question felt like a spotlight on my own relative quiet.
