Chelsea Small, aged 30 at the time, was not supposed to be working on the day of November 12, 2013. But, last minute, she switched shifts with one of her co-workers. She worked at a cash advance store in Taylor, Michigan.

She was working alone on that fateful day. The store was full of security. There were cameras everywhere, a panic button near where Chelsea stood, and the doors were always locked whether they were open or closed.

At around 10:30 am Chelsea talked to her mother while business was slow. That was the last time that anyone ever spoke to her. Around 12 noon a client buzzed the door and Chelsea let him in. Whenever she did not know the customer or felt uneasy in any way, Chelsea would call her mom and keep her on the phone in case anything happened. But, the 12-noon customer did not warrant a phone call.

The customer was wearing all black and was in the store only for about 60 seconds at the most. The man strolled up to Chelsea and showed his silencer gun. She immediately pushed the panic button before he shot her. The assailant then went behind Chelsea’s desk to shoot her again in the head to ensure that she was dead.
