A 5-year-old girl disappeared from her own home while her family was only feet away.
A young girl went into her home one summer evening to play and vanished without a trace. No one in her family saw her after she went down into the family’s basement. A search ensued, but no sign of her was ever found. The mystery of her whereabouts has continued to baffle investigators.
Growing up in a rural community without all of the hustle and bustle of a busy neighborhood should offer some level of protection. People often know all of their neighbors and look out for each other. They are also more likely to notice when something is amiss or when a stranger is in the area. Summer Wells was a spirited five-year-old girl who grew up in the rural and unincorporated community of Beech Creek in Eastern Tennessee. She had three older brothers to play with and a large yard to enjoy.
