Torso in the Bay
The Unsolved Murder of Evelyn Hernandez
In 2002 a pregnant woman started her day in California just as she normally would. Nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary, but a short time later that morning she would go missing. Within a few months, her body would wash ashore of the San Francisco Bay. This is a familiar story to many in the United States, but this isn’t the Laci Peterson murder. This murder took place seven months before Laci was killed.
Evelyn Hernandez
Evelyn Hernandez was a 24-year-old immigrant from El Salvador just trying to make a life for herself and her young 5-year-old son, Alex, in San Francisco. She immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 14-years-old. Evelyn was a single mom with another baby on the way. She was nine months pregnant with her second son that she planned on naming Fernando.
Evelyn Hernandez worked hard for her young family. She maintained two jobs, one at the local Costco and another at the Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel. Evelyn resided in the Croker-Amazon neighborhood of San Francisco. On her off time, she enjoyed spending time with her son, Alex, and her boyfriend, Herman Aguilera, age 36, baby Fernando’s father. Overall, Evelyn’s life was a happy one, but she was in for a surprise.
