John List was described as a decent man, husband, and father to his family. But, beneath the surface of his existence, John was a disturbingly violent killer. In 1971, he murdered his mother, wife, and three children in their luxurious religious home before disappearing for over a decade.

After 18 years in hiding, John was arrested shortly after his family’s murder case was featured on the popular television show America’s Most Wanted.

After graduating from college, John began to become acquainted with a widow named Helen, revealing details about his life. Helen claimed to have conceived John’s child shortly after their introduction. John, a Lutheran, was hesitant to let go and decided to marry Helen.

However, John later felt betrayed when Helen confessed to her pregnancy before realizing it was a hoax. Despite his disappointment, John had decided to continue protecting their household. Eventually, John and Helen had three children during their first four years of marriage.
