March 26, 1991, was a public holiday in South Korea for local elections. Schools, campuses, and workplaces were closed, so people spent more time outdoors.

Five children from Daegu filled their holiday playing outdoors. They set out to find salamander eggs in an area not too far from their neighborhood. Unfortunately, they never came back until now. Later, the case that remains a mystery was known as the Frog Boys mystery.

Chronology of Frog Boys’ Disappearance

On Tuesday, March 26, 1991, the five friends intend to go looking for salamander eggs at Mount Waryong behind their school. The mountain is only 2 km away, so they decided to walk while enjoying spring.

The five children were Woo Cheol-Won (age 13), Cho Ho-Yeon (age 12), Kim Yeong-Gyu (age 11), Park Chang-In (age 10), and Kim Jong-Sik (age 9). Previously there was also Kim Tae-Ryong (age 10) who initially came with them but went home because he missed breakfast in the morning.
