After school self care

By Lola Reyna

Since school has started it may feel like every day there is something new to worry about. After all, this is the first time many students are going back to in-person school in over a year and have had to be around so many people.

Here are 5 things to do after school to boost your mood or to relieve all the stress school may be causing.

Listen to Music

Put on your favorite song and just have fun; dance and sing along to it. If you are looking for something more relaxing, try putting on some calming music and lay down with your eyes closed. Some good places to listen to music are Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. All of these apps either have pre-made playlists with relaxing music, or you can build your own playlist.

Fun Recipes

Find some easy recipes online that you would enjoy and have fun with! Some easy suggestions include s’mores pops, pizza quesadillas or french toast. Pinterest is a great source when looking for recipes.

Create Something

You can draw or paint something that expresses how you feel. If you don’t like making things from scratch, then a coloring book could also be a good option. There are many adult coloring books that can be used to relieve stress. There are plenty you can purchase on Amazon for under $10.

Take a Nap

Let your body relax so that when you wake up, you feel refreshed. If you are having trouble sleeping, you should try listening to some relaxing music. According to HealthLine.com, naps should be 10–20 minutes long so that when you wake up, you feel more alert and refreshed than before. More than that, especially longer than 30 minutes, is likely to leave you feeling sluggish, groggy, and more tired than before you closed your eyes.

Talk to Someone

Chat with a family member or your friends and let them know how your day went and how you’re feeling. As stated by PsychologyToday.com, talking about our problems or sharing negative emotions with someone can be healing and reduce stress.
