A Moving Day

Sometimes when you show up to help, what you move might be unexpected.

Under a van, shadows move.
Suspected skunk prompts move
of van prior to loading. This move
reveals a mass of ducks who’d moved,

found van’s shade as temps moved
mercury up. When the van moves,
ducklings, now on hot pavement, move
like water on a hot skillet. This move

panics non-avian helpers of move.
With brawn unsure how to move
mama duck to initiate flock’s move
to nearby placid pond, Jay’s move

is to call home. His story moves
me, after my recent duckling move*.
I encourage him to quickly move
towards others to assist. This move

unearths a teen who knew moves
of ducks and ducklings. They move
into action, grab the duck who, moved
to quack, leads ducklings to move,

collect as metal to a magnet. Movers
sweep behind teen with duck, move
duck family pond-ward…
