Here’s an idea I just may ‘borrow’
I am concocting a garden behind a forgotten byway
off my condo’s courtyard — a much better home
for outgrown pots and planters than a grimy garage cupboard
Cauldrons of beauty, abracadabra — cast strands
of jasmine-scented spells

a love of petaled green beings deep, deep,
forever bone deeply
within the loamy heart of my 4-year old grandson
My beloved little prince who’s already entranced
because the garden is our secret –
our own irreverent planet in a galaxy of formulaic roses, carp,
waterfalls and walkways
Sometimes we flower children must rebel
against leafy spurge
and the scourge of senseless authoritarian HOA rules
And just wait till my sweet Little Big Heart sees the decidedly un-secret oh-so-silly garden giggling in wait around a couple corners, down a few streets!
