Inside Crossover: a Q&A with Rebecca Castro

Meet Rebecca.

After starting out as an account manager at Crossover, she was promoted to account management team lead and now directs efforts to spread the word about how Crossover can help businesses find the best tech talent. Rebecca is based in California and discovered Crossover through a friend at Stanford University, who gave us a shout-out on social media.

Here, she shares how she got started at Crossover and gives you an insider’s perspective of what a typical workday looks like.

How did you get started in business and management?

I started my professional career in the educational sector before transitioning into management consulting and business development. The ability to teach is vital for any role, especially in management.

What are some of your day-to-day work activities?

Managing a team of three account managers, meeting with clients, making reports, debugging pipeline issues, and organizing and executing account growth strategies. My idea of work is accomplishing goals while continuously setting new ones, not logging hours or working for the weekend.

What does your work setup look like?

I change work locations a lot. I work from home most of the time, but when I travel, I work from cafés, WeWork coworking spaces, and Airbnbs.

Do you have any favorite tools, techniques, or habits that help you stay productive?

The essentials are my 15-inch MacBook Pro and Bose earphones with microphone. I like to work in the morning and in two blocks.

How do you stay connected with your teammates?

We have one-on-one [meetings] every week and two team calls on video conferencing platforms like Zoom, BlueJeans, and GoToMeeting. We also have various other calls throughout the week with other teams, so we talk almost every day. We also connect on Slack, Skype, and Gmail, and are often editing the same Google doc and sending each other comments and Google chats.

What advice would you give someone thinking about applying for a position at Crossover?

There are a few things you need: 1) willingness to learn and grow, 2) flexibility, and 3) grit, because you have to be up for the challenge.
