On Thursday, July 18, 2019, we organized Fintech Summer Meetup powered by Crowdpolicy at Τhe Impact Hub Athens with great response from the fintech community and beyond.

The event’s program was focused on highlighting the latest developments around fintech and open banking, as well as the successful and pioneering presence of Crowdpolicy in organizing and participating in fintech accelerators. The audience consisted of professionals from the fintech field, bank and financial institutions’ executives, business owners, but also members from the startup community and students who wanted to learn more about the fintech field.

At the beginning of the fintech Summer Meetup Mr. George Karamanolis Co-founder, CTO / CIO Crowdpolicy welcomed the event and spoke about the course of fintech, as long as the challenges and changes arising by this sector.

Fintech Summer Meetup powered by Crowdpolicy continued with a panel consisting mainly of banking executives who discussed and further analyzed developments in open banking, and in particular the implementation of the PSD2. Discussion was held on the potential for developers and software companies to use APIs and integrate them into financial services and link of them to their respective applications. The panel was attended by the order as presented and spoke: Mrs. Kampouridou Stavroula, Head of FinTech Hub, Senior Advisor to the Governor, Bank of Greece, Mr. Theodoros D. Konstantatos, Deputy Manager IT Applications Division, Alpha Bank, Mr. Giorgos Marinos, Head of Digital Transformations Division, NBG — National Bank of Greece, Mr. Vangelis Antonopoulos, Digital Platforms & API Manager, Eurobank Ergasias S.A., Mr. Marinos Xynarianos, Digital Innovations & Financial Technologies Expert, Crowdpolicy. The panel was coordinated by Mr. Georgios Karamanolis, Crowdpolicy Co-founder, CTO / CIO Crowdpolicy.

Mrs. Andriana Pappa, Country Manager of Visa Greece, presented following the alternative payment methods that will be developed in the coming years and stressed out that the number of online store dealers will reach 500 million points of sale. She spoke about the important initiative of organizing the Visa Innovation Program in Greece, a program supported by all banks to develop digital payments and transactions for the benefit of the Greek economy in direct cooperation with the technological and innovation company Crowdpolicy. The Visa Innovation Program is the first phase of an innovative development and application development process by Visa and aims to the direct cooperation with the local startup and fintech community.

Presentation on the next steps and the development of the Visa Innovation Program in Greece was also carried out by Mrs. Viky Foteinou, Program Manager of the Visa Innovation Program on behalf of Crowdpolicy. The actions taken in the context of the organization of Visa Innovation Program by Crowdpolicy were presented, the evolutionary path so far, who is eligible for the program, their selection process (2-step evaluation), as well as the methodology which will support those who are finally selected to participate.

In the fintech ecosystem of Greece which continues to grow and the successful cases of organizing acceleration programs was mentioned Mr. Kostas Kalogerakis in his own presentation time, Vice-President of the Hellenic BLockchain Hub.

The Fintech Summer Meetup powered by Crowdpolicy completed the presentations by Dr. John Soldatos, Innovation Director, GFT Italia who spoke for the European project Horizon2020, the sector of infinitech and the use of artificial intelligence in the financial sector.

The event continued later in the outer space of The Impact Hub Athens with networking, relaxed music, beers and pizzas, and a fruitful discussion of the possibilities that fintech can offer, as well as the next steps which can be organized locally. Much of the talk was monopolized by the value of organizing successful acceleration programs to boost entrepreneurship and the necessity of engaging the fintech ecosystem in these initiatives.
