SUP Free Innovation Lab | Demo Day
The largest Greek action of applied technological, entrepreneurial and social innovation to protect the environment and contribute to a Greece Free of Single-Use Plastics!
The Demo Day took place at Sani Resort in Halkidiki, featuring various side events around the theme of the campaign “Greece, Free of Single-Use Plastics”.
On Saturday, June 12, the grand finale of the first open innovation action within the national campaign “Greece, Free of Single-Use Plastics” took place at Sani Resort in Kassandra, Halkidiki. It was organized by the technology and innovation company Crowdpolicy under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy.
The teams worked hard on their presentations before and during the Demo Day with the support of the entire SUP Free Innovation Lab team, constantly receiving feedback and making improvements until their final presentation.

The event was attended by ministers and business executives who watched the speeches of the guests as well as the presentations of the teams with great interest!
Mrs. Eleni Andreadis, Sustainability Director at Sani Resort, welcomed the attendees and presented the sustainability and environmental awareness actions that were held at Sani Resort.
Then, Mr. Haris Theoharis, Minister of Tourism, stressed the need to create business ideas with an environmental perspective at a time when environmental conservation is more necessary than ever. He also pointed out the importance of programs similar to the SUP Free Innovation Lab and innovation marathons as a lever to mobilize young people and avoid “brain drain”.
Mrs. Sofia Zacharaki, Deputy Minister of Tourism, spoke about how important it is to reward ideas similar to those of the SUP Free Innovation Lab program which are implemented by the new generation. Emphasis was placed on the need for sustainability and environmental awareness through education.
The need for environmental awareness was also mentioned in the speech given by Mr. Konstantinos Aravossis, Secretary General of Natural Environment & Water at the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy. Mr. Aravossis pointed out, among other things, the importance of innovative business ideas and applications developed by young people that can be applied to various sectors of the country.
The speeches continued with Mrs. Vasiliki Adamidou, Director of Communication, Corporate Responsibility and Social Media at Lidl Hellas, who, in turn, stressed the significance of new innovative applications based on good practices and sustainable development.
Mrs. Angeliki Kosmopoulou, Executive Director at A. C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation, pointed out the need for actions aiming at sustainability as well as the importance of actions, such as that of the SUP Free Innovation Lab, as a driving force for youth entrepreneurship.
Then, Mr. Michael Psallidas, Managing Director of Crowdpolicy, presented the program in detail and the journey of the participating teams. He pointed out that the SUP Free Innovation Lab mobilizes the creative human capital of society and business, enhances creation and youth entrepreneurship, invests in partnerships, utilizes the know-how of executives involved and promotes innovation.

After the speeches, the SUP Free Innovation Lab teams took the floor!
The presentations included a detailed description of the teams’ business ideas which they developed and improved throughout the 5-month acceleration cycle following MVP approach methodologies.
The evening ended with the announcement of the winning team ECOCup that received the communication award from Lidl Hellas worth € 40,000! The team MS was also awarded for the implementation of the robotic machine and its practical application.

A brief presentation of the ideas and teams follows below:
Analogprogrammers: Use of recycled plastics to create reels for 3D printers in order to reintegrate plastic into the market, thus creating a circular economy and protecting the environment.
ECOCup: A mobile app that motivates beverage buyers & beverage companies (coffee) with the common goal of reducing disposable cups.
FeelTheCup: Reusable beverage cups that eliminate the need for single-use plastics for a network of contracted coffee shops in conjunction with a reward program.
MS: Automatic site cleaning by robots using visual recognition algorithms.
Resolution: A platform with educational and fun games, rewarding with points and redemption in environmentally friendly products.
The SUP Free Innovation Lab is evolving into a large innovation network, with the aim of promoting youth entrepreneurship and new innovative technologies for the environment and a Greece Free of Single-Use Plastics.
It started with the three-day SUP Free hackathon in December 2020 and continued with the 5-month SUP Free Innovation Lab business acceleration program for the distinguished teams and applications, which was successfully completed with the Demo Day held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Sani Resort in Halkidiki.
Within the framework of the program, the teams that participated in the 5-month support cycle were invited to present their business ideas to a wide audience (representatives of companies and ministries, as well as journalists) and share their experience.
The SUP Free Innovation Lab is the first open innovation action within the national campaign “Greece, Free of Single-Use Plastics”, held with the support of Lidl Hellas, in collaboration with the A. C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation, and the technological and organizational support of the Greek innovation company Crowdpolicy.
