2019 was a pretty good year for games. We had amazing games like Sekiro, Death stranding, Control, Apex Legends, Luigis Mansion 3, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Untitled Goose game and so much more. But 2020 is at like in a league of its own. I mean we already knew 2020 will be a great year for games. But OWW BOY! Is it breathtaking? So, what are the games that released? What games are about to come? Why shouldn’t you talk shit about Animal Crossing in front of your friend?

So… where do I even start? Let’s start off with Ori and the Will of the Wisp. A game is so good that I think I like Metroidvania now. Every single aspect of this game is not only impressive on its own right, but it was also the perfect squeal of Ori and the Blind Forest by Moon studios released back in 2015. The earlier game was sure fun but was a lil bit of a letdown because of the lack of mobility and those darn spikes. But the movements, the abilities and unlockables have improved a lot from then. But It appears that moon studios kinda have copied off of Cherry’s Hollow Knight. But who cares anyway, nothing is original anymore… ;-; But to this game, there’s a much bigger emphasis on mobility. Ori controls so good now. The movement is slick from the beginning but by the end game, you can pull off moves like latching of to that thing, triple jump, dash into blue thing then lunch yourself feels so good mastering the controls. The story was meh~. But the sound design and the great visuals always gives me chills. Good game.

Not a week goes by before we get Animal Crossing New Horizons. A game that hasn’t gotten a sequel in 8 years. Well, what is Animal Crossing? It’s a game, where you build bridges, for animals to cross, it’s right there in the name.

The game itself is very shallow but it stretches itself for a lengthy duration. Many games good and bad does that. But if you talk shit about it, oh no! It’s not the kind of game you played growing up. There’s no dramatic story, no combat, no blowing up huge dragons and robots with a rocket launcher. No. because it’s cool and relaxed. Here you fish, pop a balloon, catch insects instead of shooting giant space robots. The genius of Animal Crossing is its sense of progression. It makes you wait real-time days, weeks or even months for things to transpire. And it commits to this idea. It has a very visual way of showing you how far you’ve come. The first day your island is very barren, there are a few rivers scattered around, few animals, you have a shitty tent to stay. But next day you unlock new tools, complete nook miles, have new buildings, new animals, new items, *check out my Godzilla over here*. You gotta collect all the collectibles and rare fish, only then you are cool. And that keeps you coming back.BTW, I don’t know why everyone hates Tom Nook. I mean sure he gives you a debt of 80,000 bells at least everytime, but he’s also like, give me the money whenever you like. He doesn’t force you to pay him back. That man is a saint. The soundtrack is fun. Everything looks cartoony and cute. Easily Animal Crossing New Horizon will go down in Nintendo history with everything is offers. 4/5. *distant voice “WHAT???”* I mean 5/5.

Guess which game came out the same day as Animal Crossing? It’s the DOOM ETERNAL baby! [inserts heavy metal music]. I myself am not a big fan of gore and Doom in general. but boy does it make me want to commit crimes in real life. The action is so engaging that my friend had to snap me out of it like ‘woahh! take it, easy mate. That demon had a family as well’’ And to that my reply was, ‘’I know. And they are next!’’ And the progression is sure as hell rewarding. At the beginning, you’re like ‘I can’t wait to find a cool upgrade for my shotgun to be better at this war!’ and after a while “I’M THE WAR!!!’’. The game is like building a house. You build a house brick by brick. But here you built the slayer upgrade by upgrade. You upgrade your weapons, upgrade your upgrade of the weapon, upgrade yourself, unlock absurdly overpowered skills. You learn the bosses’ attacks and weak points and realize that at the start you were just bashing the keys of a piano but now you can skillfully play rock music on the piano. The game itself is unapologetically video game-y in all the right ways. Headshots, glory kills, insane boss fights, flying upgrades and floppy disc containing cheat codes, wall painting of the slayer, playing the older doom game in slayers own computer. You just can’t take it seriously. And Doom knows that very well. The music and soundtrack are insane; the visuals are glorious. The summary of the story is ‘‘don’t do this shit man! It ain’t worth it.’’. Doom Slayer, “lmao shotgun shells go brrrrr!!!’’ With all that, definitely check it out if you haven’t already.

Half-Life Alyx. I kid you not a real shit developed by Valve 13 years later a fully goddamn fledge half-life game! The bar for VR has been set. And god it has been set high. Valve really showed how the change of medium hinders the experience. Instead of making a half-hearted game, if you really put your time and efforts and see what works for VR and what it can change you get a really good game of a really good franchise. The hype for a new half-life game was astronomical. ‘Half-life 3’ just the name sends chills directly to my gamer brain. The dev team really needed the courage to release it after such a long wait time and make it live up to the hype. The game looked gorgeous. It took all the cool elements from the half-life universe and stick inside the game. It runs on the Source 2 engine. You can clutter up a lot of objects and still not burn up your computer. Everything is intractable, you could even play the piano scattered in 2–3 places. The combat parts are tense and tactile with intense music kicking in the background and there are really scary moments like being stuck in an elevator with Jeff, an un-killable flesh dissolving monster. And the fact that it’s all in VR changes the experience a lot. The ending is completely unreal. I’m not going to spoil anything but G-Man talks to you the player in person. And there’s a teaser for a new half-life game as well. I’ve always liked the G man as a character. He’s mysterious, he’s cool enough to manipulate time and he talks to you straight in front of you. And if you lived this yourself then you know how VR changes the experience. Sadly I don’t own a VR so I just had to watch people play it online…;-; I needed to know what happens ok… ;-;. As soon as this quarantine is over m gonna go and take like someone’s VR to try it out myself. I have to. And so should you, because it’s definitely not something you want to miss out on.

What era are we living in right now? I mean If a time traveler travels to the current time and askes you, what games are trending right now and you reply half-life, doom and animal crossing he would be like “SO IT IS THE LATE 90’S?” just Woah! Also, it’s a great time for introverts. No school, staying home and practicing social distancing of which you already have a black belt. It truly is a great time to be introverted.

I also got to give some credit to Warzone. Imagine playing a Battle Royal and not wanting to jump inside a trash compactor. Yea. Call of Duty Warzone is the most fun I’ve ever had in a battle royal. It’s like a good mix of battlefields open big maps with the vehicle with faster-paced chaotic Call of Duty match. The gulag and buying re-spawns does change the battle royal vibe but in a good way. The vehicles are a bit wacky and sometimes your entire squad dies in the dumbest way possible. Like by your own supply drop. COD now has its own ‘only in warzone moments’. So play it with your friends during the quarantine. It’s free to play. And that’s a great price.

What else? All the old Halo games are back on PC. The new Halo Infinite is in development with the new Xbox series X. Resident Evil 3 and Final Fantasy VII got a remake. Nioh 2 got released. Might check out someday. Dreams were also something where you could make artworks or build your own games. Or just cyberbully people in creative ways:’3. There are also a bunch of games which are about to come like Last of Us part 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Rainbow Six Siege Quarantine(unfortunate choice of branding name), a new Cuphead, Fast & Furious(on the original Xbox), Stanley Parable, Fallout 76:Wastelanders, and even some Hatsune Miku Project Diva megamix! Woah! Sure the lockdown and all will delay a lot of the initial release date. But we’ve got games for a while and nothing better to do.

There are new consoles as well like the Xbox series X. Which will come along with Halo Infinite and will support all the older Xbox games? Playstation 5 is also in development. The console has been shown, looks slick. Can’t wait for Last of Us part 2. PS 5 will also support older PS 4 & 3 games. Goggle Stadia is also a thing in development. I think it’s promising. It’s been a great year for us gamers in spite of the pandemic that’s going on. God playing plague Inc. up there. Stay home, don’t buy all the toilet papers, obey the rules of lockdown and play games. It’s getting a little annoying I know but help each other stop the spreading of COVID-19.
