Manga Review: Witch Hat Atelier

Witch Hat Atelier, also known as Tongari Boushi no Atelier, is both written and illustrated by Kamome Shirahama. It made its debut in 2016 in the Morning Two magazine, which is the same publication responsible for ‘Hireath.’ My recent reading habits have mostly revolved around Power-Fantasy and Villainess-themed Manhwa, which are quick and easy to pick up, offering straightforward enjoyment. While not all of them were subpar, they didn’t necessarily offer the most sophisticated reads. So, even though I do not read titles that have received or will receive an Anime adaptation, I picked up Witch Hat Atelier. And I cannot express how much I loved this Manga.

The story unfolds in a world dominated by magic that permeates every aspect of existence. Within this world, certain individuals known as Witches possess the ability to shape magic using a unique ink in accordance with their will. This art is practised in secret for its potential repercussions. When wielded by individuals of ill intent, extends to a realm of devastation that may encompass the loss of lives or inflict profound harm. Then we have Coco, a young girl fascinated by magic, as our protagonist. Through a series of fortunate and unfortunate events, she finds herself under the tutelage of a magician named Qifrey. Coco’s journey to delve deeper into the world of magic alongside Qifrey’s other apprentices forms the core of the plot…
