Our Juice Chia!

My wife, Elizabeth, and I are planning a celebration of our vows come this June at the beach. Of course, the dash to be and to look our best by that date has started. The only difference, though, is that we both individually have been on a quest to improve our lives and live life to the fullest for a couple years now. This is not just some fad diet to reach a goal for us. It’s that we both want to not suck and, well, be better.

Today marks a trial run of a full day of juicing before we began a 28-day challenge. We have decided to take the whole month of February and ingest nothing but juice with an occasional smoothie after watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead 2 by Joe Cross about rebooting. (Well, coffee and green tea, too. I’m not a masochist.)

Yesterday, we made the investment in an Omega J8006 Nutrition System Juicer. It should arrive tomorrow, and I, personally, can’t wait to play with it. Anxious to get started, I wanted to get a sense of just how mentally challenging it was going to be to juice the entire month of February. Thankfully, Elizabeth had access to a centrifugal juicer, and she a recipe for Mean Green Juice from Kris Carr.

This morning, I took my beginning weight, and Elizabeth made the Mean Green Juice for our breakfast. So far, so good. We’ll see how the remainder of the day shapes up.

I really have been healthy for the past couple of years due increasing both my physical and nutritional knowledge by doing Crossfit and cycling through Paleo, Zone, Intermittent Fasting, and Macro Counting nutritional plans. Thanks to those efforts, over the past 2 years, I had dropped over 50 pounds, blood pressure from 130/90 to 110/70 and resting pulse from 80 to the low 60s. However, at age 43, I have a desire to be shredded, and I have a desire to be healthy, fit and functionally mobile the rest of my life. Lately, I am finding myself both backsliding and indulging far too often. I am entitling myself to cheat. No more! I refuse to suck. I want to be better.

Hopefully, this 28-day juice challenge that Elizabeth and I have imposed upon ourselves will reset our future direction. In addition to the juicing, we plan to add more walking and yoga into our physical fitness routine. Stay tuned, and we are going to try to be very committed in documenting our progress. Follow Elizabeth and me on Instagram, too, where I am sure we will be posting pics and videos of our daily thoughts and routines.
