Flower Beds
“The Garden of Forking Paths” is a 1941 short story by Argentine writer and poet Jorge Luis Borges. It examines the idea of multiple realities and suggests that at moments of decision, each possible choice becomes the start of a different path of outcomes.
I left early in the morning
While you were still sleeping
Knowing that the adventures
Of this lonely day of living
Would take me far away
From the path you were already on
As you rose to greet the sun.
Now my greatest hope
Through the course of this living
Is to wait until the shadows stretch
Long against the western sky
Where I will find you once again
Working in the garden you planted
When the frost finally subsided
And we were still together.
