Plato was partially right
When he noted
The shadows dancing before us
While we were chained to the wall.
What he may have missed
What the fact that the fire
Didn’t burn behind
Casting the glowing images
Of reality before us.
Perhaps, instead, the light
Came from within
Our own eyes, our own lens
Projecting the world as we saw it
Onto the canvas
We still think is real.
