The Unexpected Apple

Go through life
Like an unexpected apple
Left barely hanging
Off an abandoned, wild tree.
Live in semi-anarchy
Under the loose affiliations
Of separate, neighboring branches
And the leaves that disperse light and shade.
Realize that no one knows
When the fall will come
Or where you just might land
At the feet of certain strangers.
For at that very moment
You may be left there to rot
Or lifted up with the joy
Of fresh, welcomed food
For one more hungry soul.
