One of the phases in the Hero’s Journey is known as “The Calling.” This is the tenuous moment the protagonist is beckoned out into the unknown, filled with adventure and fraught with danger… In our collective journey, how often have we been called? How often have we answered?
Something calls us
Down to the river
To the grassy banks
Where the water flows
Endlessly passing, passing away.
Someone calls us
Over to the channel’s edge
Where the docks
Have been erected
To carry us, carry us far away.
Somewhere waits
Further down stream
For our inevitable arrival
In hopeful anticipation
Of that fateful day
We step away, finally step away from shore.
