The depths of Tezos, simplified on the Periscope home page.

The state of the Tezos network has grown and changed drastically over the months and years since the fundraiser. Analysts normally look at the chain using static, uninspiring metrics that only capture half of the story.

Us nerds at Cryptonomic aren’t satisfied with these ill-fitting metrics, so we created Periscope: a dashboard for Crypto-heads like us. It presents network statistics to surface important changes in the Tezos network over time.

There is a lot more to Tezos than what most analytic metrics allow us to see. Understanding how the network reacts to changes at a deeper level can inform decisions for not just investors, but also developers and designing dApps, user tools, and protocol updates.

Check out this graph following the number of transactions per hour over the course of a month:

Transactions Per Hour charted over the course of a month

The spikes in transactions per hour are attributed to baker payout transactions. The regularity of these spikes shows us that the network is healthy. As the network grows larger and more active we expect these spikes to be less drastic. With regular transactions happening more frequently, baker payouts would be lost in the regular amounts of tez being sent on the network.

It’s amazing how much information can be gleaned with some simple network knowledge and pointed visuals. We are so excited for all of the network insights our users will find hidden among the bars and numbers.

Of course, you can also view the raw data behind every graph at the click of a button on Arronax, our blockchain data analytics tool with an unparalleled level of power and customization.

Periscope can also be used to see and compare individual data points across multiple graphs. Let’s take a look at the top bakers. We can see that Everstake is the people’s baker: they have the most individual number of delegations of any baker by far:

However, other bakers have higher balances staked with them:

Periscope brings these nuances, once hidden by aggregation and scale, to light, giving our users great flexibility and visibility.

There will be many changes and updates coming to Periscope in the future. Feel free to request graphs and other features that would make your data analysis work easier in our Matrix rooms!

Of course, Periscope is powered by ConseilJS (which in turn grabs all this data from Conseil!) and Nautilus Cloud, and is a prime example of the potential of the Cryptonomic technology stack for Tezos. There are many stories to tell, hidden behind the vast data making up the Tezos blockchain. With Periscope and the rest of the Cryptonomic stack, these stories can finally come to life.
