Those of you who attended the Tezos meetups in New York will be familiar with Cryptonomic and our work. Otherwise, we might be new to you we’ve been busy building and keeping a low profile. But after the Tezos Foundation’s generous grant announcement, we thought it would be good to talk a bit about who we are and what we are building within the Tezos ecosystem.

Cryptonomic is a Brooklyn/Cryptolandia-based company dedicated to the emerging decentralization revolution. We believe that technological progress on trustless computation and storage will soon enable people and communities to gain ownership over their identities, information, and finances through decentralization and disintermediation. At the moment, we’re focused primarily on Tezos and are building out infrastructure for creating scalable, resilient and functional applications on the world’s first blockchain with distributed governance. In the coming months, we hope to roll out a slew of tools to make it easy for everyone to develop on Tezos, whether it’s a user-facing application or changes to the underlying protocol.

Our first release will be a wallet for managing, transmitting, and delegating XTZ. We’re hard at work on the alpha release and will soon be reaching out to the community for feedback to work out the inevitable kinks. We’ll also be subjecting all our systems and infrastructure to audits from several reputable companies and will update the community on their progress over Twitter in the coming weeks. A secure and reliable wallet application is necessary for any thriving decentralized ecosystem, so any input on bugs and vulnerabilities will always be welcome, no matter how minor they seem. We’ll soon tweet out details about our feedback forum.

This wallet also relies on two of our other projects: Conseil and Nautilus. Conseil is a Scala and Akka-based RESTful API for Tezos that allows open-ended queries against data from the Tezos blockchain. Its client-side variant conseil.js is written in Typescript and allows web developers to query Conseil, sign transactions and work with keys and wallets locally. Conseil uses our back-end node infrastructure, Nautilus, which bakes in automation and monitoring to provide stable nodes for high-throughput applications. These services will be available for the Tezos developer community to use shortly after the wallet launches. All our code is written in a functional and strongly-typed manner and we are naturally committed to open source. Moreover, we aim to make our tools deployable in a decentralized manner in order to avoid the perils of relying on centralized infrastructure. Expect to hear more about this later in the year.

Of course, we’re also working on other projects that we can’t publicly talk about yet ;). Our website will soon be overhauled to provide more information about our team and our plans. Watch this space for further announcements!
