Amazing Discoveries in Outer Space Review

Entertainment always seems to call space the final frontier, but there’s more than it to that. It’s more or less the exploration of everything we scientifically stand for, compounded into one crazy system. Many games, big and small, have tried to tackle this theme but with varying effect. Yet, Amazing Discoveries In Outer Space or ADIOS for short, makes it feel right at home. Here’s why.

Gameplay:

Go rocket go!

While ADIOS doesn’t forego the crashlanding tales we’ve all heard and seen before, it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome with it’s unoriginality and rather blossoms into something new. Need proof? The game is all about exploring and scavenging, but in a more resourceful way that goes beyond just items. Instead, your main focus is energy, and you need all of it. Developers can only give space so many chances, but this one definitely takes the spotlight in terms of entertainment.

Story & Design:

You have a choice for characters, an essential feature for a roguelike like this

The really cool thing about ADIOS is how you start to notice more and more about the gameplay as you play it. There isn’t a Spelunky-like journal necessarily, but you’ll learn from your mistakes in a way that feels much faster than other permadeath adventures. This might be due to how the planets are designed, where everything feels like a puzzle but in the less traditional sense. Gravity changes are partly responsible for this, giving the game a great and fluid gimmick.

Presentation/ Visuals & Audio:

The main character is tiny, echoing the themes of space we all know and love

ADIOS may not be the prettiest game in the world, but what it lacks in graphics it makes up for in presentation and sound design. They really set the atmosphere of the game, and flow beautifully with each perfect moment. That is, until more serious dangers arise. (Watch out for asteroids and aliens, especially!)

Conclusion:

ADIOS is far from an accurate description of space, but it’s another game that proves that you don’t need to yield from any topic to make an intriguing interactive property. In-game additions like game references and secret levels make the trip even merrier, making space feel like that one true home.

Amazing Discoveries in Outer Space gets a 8/10 (Very Good)
