Amazing Discoveries in Outer Space: The Potted Plant Update Review

Every once in a while, games will need to make improvements in order to tide their audiences over until the next expansion or add-on. However, for an indie game, this is even more essential. Earlier this month, Amazing Discoveries In Outer Space was reviewed by us, and we commented on how great the game not only felt but played. However, developer Cosmic Picnic thinks this can be improved upon with a new update, so here’s our verdict if they succeeded or stumbled with an underwhelming revamp.

Gameplay:

One of the more subtle features is potted plants

In our previous critique, we explained the intriguing examples of gameplay present in Amazing Discoveries in Outer Space, and with the new Potted Plant update, this has become a lot more quicker to handle. This includes the game’s many casual adaptions, that don’t necessarily ruin the flow if given a second shot in a play through. This is certainly impressive compared to the countless examples of developers screwing up a more inexperienced style.

Story & Design:

A slight thing missing is more character custimization

On top of this casual refinement, Amazing Discoveries in Outer Space has also added a couple of new enemies, utilities, and an environment. None of it is absolutely mind-blowing, but it’s really well done considering the game showcases it as simple update material. Better yet, some of these new additions add some mystery to the game’s setting, which is needed if you completed a lot of content previously.

Presentation/ Visuals & Audio:

Presentation is kicked up a notch, with new changes

Lastly, the Amazing Discoveries In Outer Space Potted Plant Update also makes numerous augmentations to the presentation side. New zoom features, a plethora of camera improvements, and small audio fixes all compact the other sides of the experience much more sufficiently. This is also one of the few moves that works for both types of players especially.

Conclusion:

All in all, The Potted Plant Update for Amazing Discoveries in Outer Space does a lot of things right and not a lot wrong. It may not be the meatiest of add-ons, but for the price of free, it scratches a certain itch that only few can conjure. Looks like I’ll be venturing out into space one more time!
