The Cube-Daily News Update: 2/19/17

Today we’ve got more Nintendo Switch news, as well as some big departures for prevalent video game producers. Here are your essential stories for Sunday, February 19th 2017.

A new mode is coming with Battlefield 1’s They Shall Not Pass expansion:

A new uploaded on Battlefield 1/DICE’s Youtube channel explains the game’s next mode, called Frontlines. Explained as a combination between Rush and Conquest, Frontlines involves protecting telegraph machines, while one team attacks and the other defends. It will come with Battlefield 1’s They Shall Not Pass expansion, and you can watch the trailer below:

The Nintendo Switch will support Airplane mode:

Following new screenshot leaks of the console’s UI, its been confirmed that the Nintendo Switch will have an airplane mode. In order to activate this, you’ll only have to activate a single button in the settings menu. This is an improvement Nintendo-wise, considering the Nintendo 3DS lacked an airplane mode.

The Nintendo Switch launches on March 3rd.

Disgea 5’s Nintendo Switch port has a release date:

During NIS America’s 2017 Press Event, the company confirmed a more specific release date for the Nintendo Switch version of Disgea 5, instead of relegating it to a spring 2017 release window. The game will now launch on May 23rd, containing all previous DLC’s as well.

Erik Wolpaw has departed from Valve:

Known for writing the narratives behind the Portal series and episodic add-ons for Half-Life 2, it’s now been confirmed that Erik Wolpaw has left Valve. Wolpaw won’t be exiting the game’s space though, as he’s been confirmed to write Psychonauts 2 (which launches in 2018). Lastly the news is also notable in terms of Valve departures, Marc Laidlaw left last year.

Blizzard has ended support for Windows XP & Vista:

Confirmed through a new post on the Battle.net forums, Blizzard has announced they are killing Windows XP and Vista OS support. This affects games such as World of Warcraft, Diablo III, Starcraft II, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm, but not more recent games like Overwatch.
