Crocodiles In One Night Slaughtered Over 900 Japanese Soldiers
The tragic story of the Battle of Ramree Island — World War II (1945)
Have you ever heard of Ramree Island? It is located in Myanmar, and it is the most dangerous island in the world. There was a story that hundreds of people died getting slaughter by crocodiles in just one night.
Since the battle of Midway 4–7 June 1942 and the death of Isoroku Yamamoto — the war strategist in 1943 had caused, the Imperial Japanese Army was losing spirit in war. The increasingly powerful Allies constantly pushed their position in the Pacific. Territories in the Pacific, such as Saipan, Tinian, and Guam, eventually fell to the Allies.
Although the Imperial Japanese Army was still relatively strong in Southeast Asia, allies’ opposition to the Imperial Japanese position rapidly expanded. Especially in Burma (Myanmar), the British colony that the Imperial Japanese Army captured at the beginning of World War II.
One territory in Burma that tried to be captured was Ramree Island (February 19, 1945) — a small island in western Burma. The British plan was to build an airbase there.
