There seems to be a new trend taking the Korean drama industry by storm: Creature thrillers.

And after watching Sweet Home (Seasons 1 & 2) and Gyeongseong Creature practically back-to-back, all I have to say is…

…I’m here for it!

Now, let’s talk about Gyeongseong Creature.

A short(ish) summary of the drama.

In as few words as possible, Gyeongseong Creature is set in Gyeongseong of 1945 (modern-day Seoul) when Japan still actively controlled Korea.

(Based on clues from the drama, the story “happened” after the Tokyo bombings in March 1945 but before the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.)

It’s a brutal scene of ethnic discrimination, forced conscription, and violence of all kinds. Yet, some people are thriving in it.

People like the male lead, Jang Tae-sang (played by actor Park Seo-joon), who is a native Korean but also a wealthy businessman with a vast network of connections…
