The “marinate”

The term “marinating” is not unknown in the cooking world. We recognize the value of drenching something in another thing, then to spend time on it, in order to get a good product at the end. This is a tried and tested method and one that we acknowledge “the longer the better”.

But what’s interesting here is we don’t apply the marinating technique to anywhere else in life. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. We want the speediest results, we want the fastest route to climb the ladder, we want the fastest timeline, we see efficiency > time.

There’s a saying in chinese that goes “you need to be marinated”. The analogy refers to that sometimes in life you just need to soak around for a while before you get good. The next time you’re stumped and you’re wondering “why not me” or “why can’t I”, ask yourself instead “have you marinated long enough?”
