Tearing Down The Mental Establishment

Brick By Brick
During this recent election cycle, the word establishment made a dramatic resurgence in our social lexicon. I had never heard the word used more often by so many different people.
But elections aside, all of us have our own “establishment” or to be better understood as a deeply embedded belief system that influences our perception, our habits, our attitude, and our actions.
Many of the problems we face today as a society derive from some form of an establishment — a “my way is better than yours” mentality.
As we grow up, we subconsciously absorb the values and ideals and habits and preferences of those closest to us — parents, extended family, friends, teachers, clergy, etc. — which end up becoming the brick and mortar for our personal establishment. The fortress for our emotional and mental framework.
It’s from within the stone walls of this fortress where we judge and compare and compete and label and leave nasty emoji’s on Facebook.
This change-repelling mentality is dualistic and struggles to grasp things like unity, love, compassion, forgiveness, Spirit, truth, grace, and justice.
The only way to breach the walls of this fortress and reshape our whole way of thinking about life and the people in it is by allowing ourselves to open up.
By questioning what feels right and what feels wrong.
By patiently working on our thinking mind.
By prayer, meditation, and active contemplation.
By learning to silence the inner chatter of old, outdated voices and gently fiddling with your intuitive antenna to catch the right signal from your True Self.
So, join me. Let’s tear apart these fortresses one brick at a time.
