Why Don’t You Like My Stuff?

Recommends, likes, thumbs ups, hand shakes, smiles, high-fives, shares, retweets, these are the things that many of us on an independent path are chasing after.
When these extrinsic validators don’t match our expectations (which is 99.99% of the time) we automatically assume that there must be something wrong with our product.
“Does it suck?”
“Did I pick the right tags?”
“Should I tweak the title?”
“Should I change the color of the logo”
“Do I need to refine my pitch?”
“Are my margins too low?”
But here’s a thought.
What if there is nothing wrong with what you created? What if it’s exactly what it needed to be? What if there was nothing else you could’ve added to it to make it more than what it was?
What if the paltry feedback isn’t directly related to the quality of your work?
What I’m getting at here is, don’t be too quick to point the finger back at yourself when your art doesn’t “resonate” the way you’d like it to.
Maybe the world isn’t ready just yet for what you have to offer it. Or maybe you need a little more time to grow under the platform you’re using.
Whatever the case, if you love what you’re doing, stick with it. Don’t give up. Keep creating.
Don’t let an algorithm or other people’s opinions discourage you from creating the work you know you were meant to create.
