2021 “Pro Bowl” Weekend

The plan for Week 5!

First, a quick refresher as to why we’re doing this. As you know, the NFL has added a 17th game to their schedule. This moves our playoffs onto Weeks 15, 16, and 17 and adds a week to the fantasy regular season. The problem with that is…we previously had a perfect schedule as a 14 team league playing each opponent once. Although it wouldn’t have really mattered in the grand scheme of things, it’d be nice to keep our schedule that way, plus I don’t want to hear about Mikey complaining that he got unlucky and matched up against *insert different contender every year* twice. So instead, I’ve come up with a fun solution to our problem:

The D|League Pro Bowl Weekend!

During Week 5, instead of a matchup against another team, the 14 D|League GM’s will be split into two Pro Bowl teams and battle for a cash prize of $110 to the winning team. Here’s how it will work:

The top two GM’s in the standings will draft the other 12 GM’s, snake-draft style, to form the two Pro Bowl team rosters that will eventually make up the lineups that face head to head.

Each GM must contribute TWO players to their Pro Bowl Team’s lineup, and the starting lineup must end up with:
2 QB
6 WR
4 RB
2 TE

Essentially, the top two GM’s will strategize as they draft the other GM’s, and then the two Pro Bowl Teams will strategize amongst themselves on their perfect lineup, with the key detail being that each GM must contribute two players.

Make sense? Quick example:

Josh and Lando are the top two teams after Week 4. They each draft 6 other GM’s to form their Pro Bowl “roster”.

Team 1 ends up being: Josh, Anton, Mikey, JR, Marlo, Jeff, J Tong

Team 1’s starting lineup could look something like this:
QB: Dak Prescott (Mikey)
QB: Josh Allen (JR)
WR: Davante Adams (Josh)
WR: AJ Brown (Josh)
WR: Stefon Diggs (Anton)
WR: Amari Cooper (Mikey)
WR: Calvin Ridley (JR)
WR: DK Metcalf (Marlo)
RB: Jonathan Taylor (Jeff)
RB: Antonio Gibson (J Tong)
RB: D’Andre Swift (J Tong)
RB: Derrick Henry (Marlo)
TE: Travis Kelce (Anton)
TE: Kyle Pitts (Jeff)

Sounds easy enough, or is it? Since each GM has to start two of their own players, you could run into a situation above where Team Josh decides it’s best to not use Christian McCaffrey from JR’s team in order to make room for Jeff and J Tong to use their best players who are RB’s.

As for score tracking, I think I’ll be able to mess around with Sleeper that week so that we can all follow the matchup and then reset everything after.

Finally, the $110 will be paid out to the winning team as follows:
$20 to the GM “Captain” that drafted the others
$15 each to the 6 other GM’s

Tiny extra incentive to win early in the season to land a Captain spot and to draft the right GMs!

Any questions, let me know!
