Being a Comissioner ain’t easy

I am but a simple man with a simple love for Dynasty Football. Bear with me as a washed Commissioner trying to do the best for the league. First, some wise words from my wife: “Stop being whiny little bitches about your fake little football game”, in response to me explaining why I’m stressfully typing out an essay while we were driving for an hour on Sunday.

That said, we’ve all put 7+ years of time and money in this league and I hope we all have the pleasure of being whiny little bitches about our fake little football game for another 70 years.

After a couple days to decompress from the situation and think more rationally about everything, I’m walking back the whole emergency Superflex position thing. Luckily, the decision is made easier considering it did not impact Tani and Chris’ matchup (specific to subbing in Jerry Jeudy at “QB”).

First of all, handling something like that in Sleeper is messier than I thought. I can’t just change the QB to SF for a single week and adding a Superflex position overall makes the rest of the season messy even if the directions are as simple as “Hey don’t start anyone in this position, thanks”.

But more importantly, this is a WAY bigger and more impactful rule change than the lineup changes that I’ve done in the past to deal with tricky/questionable lineup decisions. I still think the general idea is a good one and ultimately achieves my theory on anti-tanking, which is provide everyone the most incentive and tools to try and win in good faith. (Such as our unique bottom 8 playoff structure).

However, this is something that really needs to be a full league discussion, as evidenced by multiple people immediately bringing up some good questions and counter-arguments on Sunday.

Ultimately, this is a discussion and concern about tanking. I’m not really sure where this feeling has crept in that people in our league have done shady shit without repercussions when I know for a fact that I’ve made lineup changes in the past multiple times. Maybe it’s exactly that, that I step in too often rather than let a full tanking accusation play out.

Honestly, it’s usually just exhausting having the discussion because as far as I can remember, the last truly shady shit someone pulled was Mikey playing that backup Lions QB all the way back in 2017. Everything since then has basically been bye week/injury situations where again, it felt easier to just step in and edit a lineup than penalize people for having busy lives.

I guess all of that to say is, reminder that there ARE drastic penalties (1st Round pick and more) for tanking if you get accused and found guilty. And I can’t always continue to step in so you better be ready to defend yourself if you’re thinking about doing anything questionable.

On that note, I really do believe that everyone has done a good job operating in good faith. Again, specific to this QB situation, Chris very clearly made efforts to get a QB and also has no incentive to tank. Lando last year was in the playoff race, trade window was closed, and was outbid for a QB. And while we’re at it, thank you to JTong for promptly adding Andy Dalton in Week 3 when Bryce was hurt when he definitely could have been “lazy” and risked someone else adding him.

If there’s something I’m missing, that’s news to me. So I say again, I can’t always continue to step in so you better be ready to defend yourself if you’re thinking about doing anything questionable. Cuz we are some whiny little bitches when the prize is Marvin Harrison Jr. Thanks.
