The Deal

Jason receives:
Parris Campbell, WR (TEN)
2020 2nd Round Pick — Josh
2021 2nd Round Pick — Josh

Josh receives:
Sony Michel, RB (NE)
2021 3rd Round Pick — Josh

The Rundown

Jason continues making moves for young receivers as he fully dives into a rebuild. While Sony might seem like an odd player to trade away for a rebuilding team after he was just drafted just a year ago, there are already concerns popping up about his health and a crowded Patriots backfield. You don’t have to look hard in the NFL for examples of running backs with only a 2–3 year shelf life and that timeline doesn’t match the trajectory of J Tong’s team. Parris is already getting rave reviews in training camp and in one offseason, J Tong has added Parris, Deebo Samuel, and JJ Arcega-Whiteside to a team previously barren of potential at the WR position along with accumulating draft picks as he builds for the future.

For Josh, he already had a likely playoff team (assuming he avoids another nightmare season like 2018) but he had a huge hole at RB2 compared to the other top-tier teams. Regardless of the red flags, Sony is still an exciting prospect that should immediately help fill that void.

Quick Trade Recaps

Mikey received:
Todd Gurley
Cooper Kupp
2019 Pick 1.11
2019 Pick 4.12

Binh received:
Amari Cooper
Marlon Mack
$10 FAAB

Mikey received:
Odell Beckham Jr.

Jeff received:
Jarvis Landry
2019 Pick 1.11
2020 1st Mikey
2021 2nd Mikey
2021 3rd Mikey

We discussed these trades a ton at our draft weekend, but here are some quick thoughts again.

The Mikey-Binh trade was obviously a huge blockbuster but it was unlikely to shake up the league from a standings perspective. Both teams were arguably just as strong as they were previously, just now with different player exposure and risk profiles. Then the second bomb dropped and Mikey added OBJ in an aggressive trade to really solidify himself as a Championship contender. 2019 Team Previews are coming soon but it won’t be a surprise when you see Mikey’s name among the top-tier teams in the league. As for Jeff, it’s a move that needed to be done. You gotta tear it down before you build it up again… and there’s going to be a lot of building ahead for him.
