Formula 1 has released a statement saying they are in talks with the City of Miami, Florida to host a Grand Prix in 2019. Nothing is official at this point but getting to this stage in the process is always promising.

It would have to be a street circuit as there is no permanent circuit in downtown Miami. As of right now, the race would be held in addition to the current United States Grand Prix in Texas. This is because the contracts put in place would have a little bit of overlap.

“Earlier today the City of Miami Commission took an important step by adding an item to their upcoming agenda, that if approved, will make way to bring Formula 1 to downtown Miami next season. We appreciate the community’s interest in hosting a Formula 1 race and look forward to working with local officials and stakeholders to bring this vision to life.” — Sean Bratches, Managing Director Commercial Operations, Formula 1

To further promote this years United States Grand Prix, organizers will host a fan festival in Miami similar to the one held in London, England last year. It seems as though Formula 1 is going after Indy-car fans by creating an event very similar to that of the Long Beach Grand Prix in California.

Formula 1 reiterated that they will not be commenting on the event any further as nothing is official. However, they did say that the race would likely be held some time in the month of October.
