A Druid Ceremony for the Winter Solstice

It was a cold grey evening a few years ago, and I thought I’d go along to experience a pagan Winter Solstice Ceremony. I’d made connections with some Druids through social media and I was writing about it for a spiritual magazine: interviews about their lives and their pagan journeys.

I’d already talked to them about their beliefs and rituals, how they came to be druids, and about OBOD — The Order of Bards Ovates & Druids — an organisation that takes them through the ranks of Bard, Ovate, and Druid to achieve each level of attainment.

Some of the Druids I interviewed were Druid Priests. It was all pretty interesting and insightful. Before the interviews, I didn’t know there were different grades of Druid. Nor did I know there’s a global organisation dedicated to Druidry and individual development through each stage.

So, on this occasion on a cold, frosty afternoon, I decided to immerse myself in the experience first hand. I went along to a Druid Winter Solstice Ceremony. It was freezing cold! It was strange and surreal. It opened my eyes, and left me educated.
