Butter me Up

Like a biscuit.

Mixed up in moods of mosaic
Placed end to end on the wall
Glue me upright if not in the night
I’m likely to peel off and fall.

Butter me up like a biscuit
Place me in symmetric lines
Cut around the waste never in haste
And squeeze me into confines.

Tiles and tiles for miles and miles
Choose me to suit your décor
Set me up straight and don’t deviate
On the wall or inline on the floor.

I’ll mesmerise you with my patterns
My glaze will amaze your eyes
I’m cool on your feet in summer
And a source of constant surprise.

A night on the tiles wipes away smiles
It will chill you right to the bone
Sliding along the slippery floor
Wishing you could reach the phone.

Styles of tiles up and down aisles
On walls some on ceilings too
And more at your feet makes it complete
When you gaze at me stirring the stew.

When polished I shine like sunlight
And glisten like morning snow
I’m the splashback in your kitchen
And in the moonlight, I shimmer and glow.
