Changing Up My Writing Schedule
This worked today, but we’ll see if it lasts
This morning, I sat down and changed up my writing schedule. Instead of working on a Medium piece right away, I took an hour or so to work on some poetry.
This change was prompted by a pop-up poetry meeting I had with some poets on Monday evening. There were only four of us at the meeting, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
What was evident was the effort the other poets were putting into getting their work out there. One person had just written a chapbook of poetry on death and was busy sending it in to ten different publications. Wow!
I’ve never done simultaneous submissions before. Maybe that’s the way to go if the publications allow it. Some don’t.
I have some goals for my writing — outside of Medium — and this meeting made me realize that I won’t meet any of them unless I spend some time on them.
What are my goals?
- Write a children’s picture book. Submit.
- Finish the novel I’ve been putting on hold. This is an adult work in the mystery genre. Submit.
- Work on a curriculum publication. I did this yesterday and got it out on my other blog, but I’d like to do more.
