PROMPT RESPONSE │POETRY
Enough Is Enough!
Inspired by Keeley Schroder’s April Challenge # 10
I’ve decided to respond to Keeley Schroder’s April Challenge prompt:
10. Write a free verse poem about an obstacle you’ve overcome in your life
The obstacles that I faced while living in a cottage back in 2020 seemed insurmountable at the time. My inner turmoil and frustrations led to the writing of the poem below. In retrospect, I see how it wasn’t the obstacles themselves that were the issue — I just wasn’t in that space mentally where I wanted to deal with what was coming up. I wanted help — someone to carry the physical load. As I was living alone at the time, I didn’t really have that.
I lived there even past some of the issues had subsided, however I ended up moving anyway because of other reasons. Obviously previous issues made the decision to move much easier.
Enough is enough!
Don’t want this no more
It’s never too late
To walk out that door
Leaving this behind
I’m turning the page
Not changing my mind
Decision’s been made
This place is immense
The work that’s required
Too big for one person
Left me feeling tired
My muscles are sore
Just want this to end
Can’t take it no more
Am needing a friend
Push regret aside
It’s non-existent
Swim with the tide
Strong and persistent
The time has arrived
New chapter is here
Yes I have survived
Now I’ll be sincere
Stating what I seek
No compromising
The words that I speak
Form crystallizing
A new place in sight
To settle my roots
The future is bright
Enjoying the fruits
