Exploring the 12th Century St. Michael’s Church
A Historical Gem in Austria Near Liechtenstein
I visited St. Michael’s Church today. It is situated in Feldkirch, Austria, and is a historical church. Initially constructed in the 12th century, this architectural marvel has evolved through various styles, blending Romanesque and Gothic influences.
Dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, the church boasts a majestic tower and an interior adorned with intricate frescoes and altars. I once was inside this church and I did not manage to capture some images in respect of the churchgoers.
What truly sets it apart is its surrounding graveyard, a serene sanctuary graced by ancient tombstones and monuments.
Near the entrance of this church, a looking cage full of skulls and skeletons was found during road widening and expansion nearby.
When the church is not in use, it is locked. It is only open when there is a church mass. The residents nearby are also allowed to have their wedding ceremony here. All they have to do is book the time ahead.
