A lawn is nature, under totalitarian rule.

Few would deny the calming effect of a lawn, especially a well-manicured one.

But they don’t come cheaply, not for you, me, or the environment.

Thinking of your lawn and the pain of weeding, mowing, fertilising, edging, is enough to take the shine off your weekend, especially if yours is a standout pleaser in the neighbourhood, and you have standards to maintain.

Undeniably it takes a huge amount of effort to tend, and too much water and money to promote that tip-top condition.

Which is why many have a love/hate relationship with their lawn.

But is our love affair with lawns waning?

We love the look, but we hate the energy we have to set side to have it looking good.

The fact is you can have a bob each way, AND, be the envy of your neighbourhood.

I’ve been researching some alternatives.

If we can be turned on by a swathe of green grass, surely we could be equally happy with a fragrant lawn that looks more…
