What is a Twitter thread?

A Twitter thread is a series of tweets linked together. You may have seen them on Twitter, with a long line (thread) connecting a set of tweets.

One tweet is limited to 280 characters. People use threads, either to tweet more info on a subject all at once, or to connect similar tweets in a grouping. I’ve seen journalists use them to tell more of the story; think of the individual tweets as chapters to the larger story that can’t be told in 280 characters.

I’ve recently started a few threads on my Twitter page. I pinned one of them, shown above. It is a thread of my Medium articles. The first, main tweet is announcing it’s a thread of my articles with a link to my page.

Instead of tweeting each article in a separate tweet, they are grouped together by this thread. So when someone else retweets that tweet…
