Ignoring Your Intuition Might Cost You Dearly

Will You Heed The Call Or Pay The Price?

I just received a fine today! The crazy part is I had a dream about this AND my intuition was clear, long before the incident occurred.

I took the train to Oslo to attend a breathwork event today (Sunday 16.04.23). I didn’t pay for a train ticket, and this is actually something I do quite often. See it as me rebelling against the high costs of travel! Also, I might have a slight enjoyment of doing something that I’m not allowed to do, and getting away with it — at least most of the time!

After the breathwork session, I took the tram with one of the ladies who had also attended. We had a good chat before and after the session, and it felt really nice getting to know someone new. As we parted ways, I continued on towards the train station. When I finally got on the train, I pondered whether to buy a ticket or not. On my way to Oslo, after not paying, I had told myself that I’d purchase a ticket on the way back. Now that I was on the train homebound — I was having second thoughts.

The desire to keep my word was present, but as I opened the ticket app to choose the number of zones I’d be passing, I immediately felt even more reluctant to purchase the ticket. The prices are insane, and should be far less than what they currently are, in my opinion! Still — there was something in me that wanted to buy the ticket and honor my word.

So — I did.

However, I didn’t purchase all the zones I needed. I figured that if I were to get caught, I’d pay a much lesser fine than if I didn’t have a ticket at all. That reasoning would later prove faulty and cost me dearly!

When Caesar Comes A-Knocking!

Whilst on the train, I was entertaining myself by listening to a podcast. Suddenly a man dressed in a green uniform akin to what the train conductors wear approached my seat, and I could hear parts of what he said despite listening to the podcast. My stomach churned. Shit!

I showed him my ticket.

In the vicinity, there were about 5 or 6 other controllers barricading the doors — not that I was planning my escape, but I can understand why they chose this strategy. I reckon many have attempted to make a run for it, and so the-powers-that-be wizened up and decided to apply more resources by having as many controllers as possible — in order to catch as many ghost-riders as they can. Ghost-riders like yours truly!

The agent asked me to click on the control icon, which I did. He scanned it, and saw what I’d assume was the time of purchase. He asked me which station I’d embarked on and I lied through my teeth! I have no idea why I lied when the evidence was right there — in his hands! In retrospect, I wish I had come clean and admitted to intentionally having purchased two zones as I thought the cost was ridiculously high.

Anyway, he went on to ask where I was going, of which I told him the truth. He told me the obvious — that I only had a valid ticket for two zones, and was missing the 3rd zone. “Do you have another ticket for the missing zone?”, he asked politely.

To make a long story short, he asked for my ID — which I didn’t have at the time, and wrote me a fine. He was the kindest agent I’ve ever met, and he was calm and polite throughout our entire interaction.

Why I’m Not Too Fussed About Receiving A Fine

Back in the day, receiving a fine would have thrown me in a fit of rage — misplaced rage though, cause who’s fault is it really if you get caught without a valid ticket?

Today, even though I was bummed at experiencing this, I wasn’t too fazed. Wanna know why? Keep reading…

As you read on, you might say that I am giving meaning where there is none, and maybe that’s true. However, I still hold as truth that how we respond to every situation matters — and the meaning I place on the incident definitely matters. It matters in terms of how I feel afterwards. It matters in terms of the vibe I’ll be carrying, which will attract and imprint the types of situations and experiences I’ll have in the future — the future that we create in the present moment. It all matters.

I had a dream last night of a friend of mine who lives in the UK. I won’t go into all the details about the dream, however I will say this: while on stage speaking to an audience, she received a piece of paper and was told that she was being indicted. There were cops outside the venue, rummaging through her belongings looking for something. They never found anything and they eventually left.

Remember this dream, as I’ll share with you another piece of this story that makes my whole experience meaningful to me.

The Power Of Intuition

I am a huge believer of the power of our intuition, aiding and directing the course of our behaviors, actions and life. In fact — I know this to be true based on previous experiences. Today’s event was no different.

When I was on the train, remember I said I had the urge to buy a ticket but I let my reasoning get in the way of that? That urge was my inner knowing. It’s that subtle voice that may come as a thought that leads to action — inspired action.

Inner vision is required to safely navigate these current times and tides.

When we are able to read and decipher the patterns and signs that come our way, we’ll be much more capable of averting certain “negative” outcomes. In my case, had I listened to this inner nudge and to the signs of my dream, I would have purchased a ticket and avoided receiving a penalty when these controllers came along. Not listening to my intuition is the ‘punishment’. Not listening to my inner knowing is what became costly!

How Does My Dream Fit Into This?

In light of today’s event, let’s decipher the dream. The paper that my friend received from the man who approached her is just like the fine I received from the agent working for the train company. The cops that were present in the dream bare a lot of similarities to the “gang of controllers” barricading the closest exit points. The part in the dream where the cops were rummaging through my friend’s belongings bare similarities to how I looked through my bag, pretending to look for a valid ticket that I knew I didn’t have. I’m just surprised at how fast this dream manifested. Maybe it was a caution, a sign. And, as I stated previously — if I had read the signs and followed my inner knowing, I’d have been “saved” from paying a fine.

FYI —I am not trying to encourage unlawful behavior, nor am I saying you should use your intuition to escape unwanted repercussions. That’s not how intuition works anyway! Part of my philosophy is: you do you as long as you’re not harming anyone or anything — as long as you’re willing to take responsibility for possible consequences of your actions! The point of this piece is to articulate and express that your intuition speaks — and you’d do well to heed its signals in every situation where it stirs.

Life Is Always For Us

In my younger years, I would have viewed this situation as a punishment for all the times I’ve neglected to purchase a ticket — let me tell ya, I’ve done so numerous times this year! (On one level, receiving a fine can also be interpreted as the Universe coming to collect a debt that’s long overdue). Today, I don’t actually see it as a punishment.

Receiving a fine didn’t faze me because I perceive this experience as another kick in the butt when it comes to listening to my gut feeling — it never lies! This whole experience has strengthened my sentiments around our inner knowing. It is teaching me how paramount it is to heed ones stirrings, — to view and interpret the signs, as this is our number one navigational tool in a world where things are getting harder to make sense of.

When we’re in touch with our inner knowing — our gut feeling, our intuition — we will always be guided safely across the dark lands where our outer vision won’t suffice.

This experience teaches me to continue listening to my inner knowing, because not doing so will be costly! I don’t mind paying this fine for such a lesson — as the lesson is far more valuable than the cost of the fine. As far as I see it, I’d rather pay a fine for the lesson now, than to have the lesson come at me in a life-and-death situation!

In conclusion, if you take away anything at all of what I shared, then let it be these two things in a nutshell:

  • be true to your word
  • follow your intuition

Thank you for reading, have a blessed week ahead.
