We had a change in plans several times, but finally were able to meet our old friends for dinner last night. Originally, our neighbors, who were some of the first people we met when we moved to the Midwest in 1999, had come to Wisconsin for a visit.

It was a Facebook message that said, “Hey, we’ll be in Wisconsin at the end of September, do you think we can get together?”

Our reply was quick and positive, “Of course, we’d love that!”

D&D lived at the top of the hill on our street, where we first purchased a house after our move from Buffalo, New York, two and a half decades ago. Our families became fast and steady friends. They, with two boys, and my husband and I, with one boy the same age as their youngest, and another on the way, got along great.

The boys played together, we had dinners together, we celebrated each other’s holidays (Jewish and Christian), and formed deep and lasting bonds.
