Monarch Butterfly, First Spotting 2023 — Photo by Author

Yesterday I was washing dishes and spotted a Monarch Butterfly on my wife's African Daisies.

I grabbed the camera and ran out front, and he had moved.

Waiting and watching, he reappeared. I got this one picture, which isn’t in focus as I wanted. But he flew away before I could refocus.

But still, I was excited even to see him at all.

I didn’t see a single Monarch Butterfly the whole year in 2022. And it’s well known their numbers have been dwindling.

I logged into my “Journey North Monarch Migration Website” account, so I could log the sighting of my little fellow.

Logging sightings helps several organizations in tracking.

You can set up an account using the link above, then log your own sightings for both Monarchs and Milkweed plants.
